Configuring IPv6 on Debian and Ubuntu

Add your IPv6 subnet to a Debian or Ubuntu server with netplan or ifupdown.

Your IPv6 subnet and gateway are shown in your panel. The examples use the documentation prefix 2001:db8::/64 — replace it with your own.

Ubuntu (netplan)

# /etc/netplan/50-ipv6.yaml
network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
    eno1:
      addresses:
        - 2001:db8::2/64
      routes:
        - to: default
          via: 2001:db8::1

netplan apply

Debian (ifupdown)

# /etc/network/interfaces
iface eno1 inet6 static
    address 2001:db8::2/64
    gateway 2001:db8::1

systemctl restart networking

Test it

ping -6 -c 3 2606:4700:4700::1111
